Arsenal news: Gabriel Jesus sends title warning as scouts sent for Declan Rice alternative

Your morning Arsenal digest on Sunday, April 23.

Gabriel Jesus sends title instruction

Gabriel Jesus has insisted Arsenal have to beat Manchester City on Wednesday if they want to win their first Premier League title in nearly 20 years.

The Gunners blew the chance to go seven points clear of their title rivals on Friday evening with a 3-3 draw with Southampton. Late goals from Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus rescued a point for Mikel Arteta's side after the bottom-of-the-table side raced into a 3-1 lead.

Speaking after the draw with Southampton, former Man City striker Gabriel Jesus has told his teammates exactly what they need to do if they are to win the title in May. "Manchester City have two games in hand but if we want to be champions we have to go there to win the game. That is all," the Brazilian said.

Scouts sent for Rice alternative

Arsenal sent scouts to watch Sporting CP midfielder Manuel Ugarte in their Europa League clash with Juventus, according to reports from Portugal.

According to O Jogo, the north Londoners sent scouts to watch the Uruguayan in action in Sporting's Europa League tie with Juventus. It's said that Arteta 'liked' what he saw from Ugarte when he came up against the Gunners in the last 16 of the competition.

Ugarte has a current release clause at €60m (£53.5m) at the Estadio Jose Alvalade and Sporting will seek to sell the midfielder for as much as possible to raise funds for their own transfer business in the summer.

Zinchenko criticism

Former Arsenal star Lee Dixon has criticised Oleksandr Zinchenko for his role in Southampton's third goal in Friday's 3-3 draw.

Zinchenko seemed to lose Duje Caleta-Car at the back post before the Croatian headed into the empty net. Speaking on Premier League Productions, he said: "Arsenal have got a tough run coming up but those fixtures were set last summer. You've got to play everyone twice.

"Look at Zinchenko for Southampton's third goal. He's got his man, he's looking at his man, he's got his arm in the air and then he just goes to sleep.

"He's not a brilliant defender. He's brilliant on the ball and Arsenal use him to their strengths with the ball. But without the ball, we saw him play a role in Liverpool's equaliser at Anfield and again today.

"He's got to be alive as a defender, whether you sometimes go into midfield or not. It's your job to keep the ball out of the back of the net."
