Arsenal news: Emery's Liverpool admission, Lacazette's vow, surprise comment from ex-Spurs boss

It is two wins from two for Arsenal in the Premier League this season after a hard-fought 2-1 victory against Burnley on Saturday.

Goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a second win of the season for Unai Emery's men, with the Gunners and Liverpool the only two sides with a 100 per cent record after two matches this season.

And with Arsenal's next game against Liverpool next weekend, something has to give.

Emery has been speaking about the prospect of facing the Reds at Anfield, and we look at what he has said, together with the latest Arsenal news, below.

Unai Emery's frank admission about Liverpool

Anfield has not been a happy hunting ground for Arsenal of late.

The Gunners suffered a chastening 5-1 defeat to Jurgen Klopp's side on their last visit to Anfield and are without a league win against Liverpool since April 4, 2015.

Both sides have started their Premier League seasons with two wins from two but the trip to Anfield is not an encounter Emery is particulalry relishing.

"For us we don't want to play against Liverpool ever," Emery said jokingly. "We'd prefer not to play against them.

"That is really our challenge, a good test. For the supporters, for all of us, going there with six points is good. Really our target is to reduce the distance to Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Chelsea."

Lacazette's vow

He may have scored his first goal of the season on Saturday, but Alexandre Lacazette insists there is more to come from him.

After netting 19 times for the Gunners last season in all competitions, the Frenchman got off the mark for the 2019/20 campaign as he netted the opening goal against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.

And Lacazette has suggested that Arsenal fans have not yet seen the best of him.

“The Premier League has seen a very good Lacazette, but not yet the best Lacazette," he said, speaking to French television channel Canal Plus.

"I need to score more goals I know, I need to be more consistent and consistent throughout matches. I can do better."

Surprising comment from former Spurs boss

It is not every day that Arsenal receive praise from a former Tottenham boss.

But ex-Spurs manager Tim Sherwood has made a surprising comment about the Gunners and the club's attacking options.

“I’m excited to watch Arsenal every single week. I would pay to watch Arsenal. They are excellent going forward. Defensively, frailties," he told Premier League Productions.

“They look strong going forward, as we knew they would. They’ve added players to their squad going forward. [Nicolas] Pepe, [Dani] Ceballos is an excellent player. They’ve got excellent players, they all look like they’re really enjoying it."

However, while Sherwood backs Arsenal to score plenty of goals, he continues to hold concerns about the club's defensive qualities.

Here's what else he had to say .
