Arsenal news: Edu 'confident' in £40m transfer as Paul Merson picks Gunners player of the season

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Sunday, June 5.

Jesus boost

According to The Sun, Arsenal are increasingly confident that they will be able to sign Manchester City frontman Gabriel Jesus this summer. The Brazilian international has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and the aforementioned report claims that the Gunners believe that an offer of around £40million will be enough to convince City to part ways with the 25-year-old.

football.london revealed last month that technical director Edu has held talks with the player's representatives in recent times. However, the report does also state that missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification could mean the north Londoners only sign three first-team players in the summer transfer window.

Merson's claim

Arsenal hero Paul Merson has backed Aaron Ramsdale to win the club's player of the season award over Hale End academy graduate Bukayo Saka. Writing for Sportskeeda, Merson said: “I could’ve just as easily gone with Bukayo Saka here, but Aaron Ramsdale has been exceptional.

"He’s had a couple of shaky performances, but he’s exceeded expectations and has been outstanding in most of the games he’s played. When Arsenal were chasing him around last year, I was sitting here wondering why they wanted a goalkeeper who’d let in more goals than anyone else in the last three years.

"Arteta got it right here, and Ramsdale’s made me eat my words. "Bukayo Saka was a close second to Aaron Ramsdale and has been a revelation for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta.

"He's been a threat in the final third and has enjoyed a great season."

Scamacca offer

Italian outlet Republica have claimed that Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bring Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca to the Emirates Stadium and the Gunners are ready to invest €35million (£30million) to sign the 23-year-old following an impressive 2021/22 season that saw him net 16 times in Serie A. The report claims that negotiations will enter 'the hot phase' in the coming days, but the player would rather sign for Inter Milan.

Sassuolo are also said to be demanding €50million (£43million) if they are to part ways with their star man this summer whilst the north Londoners are reportedly 'very interested' in Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen, although they are unwilling to offer more than €60million (£51.5million), €40million (£34.3million) less than the Serie A giants are demanding for the former Lille star.
