Arsenal news: Double injury blow, Lacazette's outburst, £50m transfer plan and Kurzawa concern

It's matchday for Arsenal!

The Gunners are back in Premier League action tonight, three days removed from a frustrating 1-1 home draw against Sheffield United - another game in which they failed to hold on to a lead.

Things don’t get much easier for Mikel Arteta as his side face London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as they look to avenge the 2-1 loss less than a month ago.

The game in SW6 will also be played in the backdrop of intense transfer speculation as deadline day is fast approaching and the north Londoners continue to be linked with defensive reinforcements.

Football.london will have all the build up to the London derby including team news, pre-match quotes and much more.

With that said, here's all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Arteta press conference transcript

The Arsenal head coach faced the media yesterday afternoon ahead of the game against the Blues.

Some of the main talking points surrounded transfers, the top four race and facing Chelsea for the second time in the space of three weeks.

"Well a lot of things have happened and it feels longer than a month to be fair. The amount of games, the (amount) we've trained, the amount of things that happened.

"Yes, a lot of things changed, a lot of positives in terms of reactions and the things they are taking on board, the way we have managed to change the energy, atmosphere, relationship and chemistry with our fans was massively important for us.

"So yes, in terms of results it could have been a little bit different, I think we have been very unlucky and other aspects have influenced that."

Double injury blow

Sead Kolasinac and Reiss Nelson will both miss the clash against Chelsea.

This was confirmed on Arsenal.com and supporters won't see either player in action until some time next month as it has also been revealed that both are to miss the FA Cup tie against Bournemouth as well as the Burnley trip on February 2nd.

Kolasinac is out with a left thigh strain, while Nelson is struggling with an hamstring injury.

As expected, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (suspended), Kieran Tierney (shoulder) and Calum Chambers (knee) will also miss the game but Sokratis faces a late fitness test after illness ruled him out against the Blades.

Lacazette dig

Alexandre Lacazette criticised his Arsenal team-mates after the draw against Sheffield United.

Mikel Arteta's side led through Gabriel Martinelli's goal, but Blades midfielder John Fleck scored a late equaliser to put a further dent in the Gunners' fading top four hopes.

And Lacazette lamented the fact that his teammates could not see the game out and secure a crucial three points.

"They [Sheffield United] were not very dangerous but this match summarises how we are this season. We are winning the match but don’t get it over the line," Lacazette told RMC Sport. "We are quite naive at the moment. We need to be nastier and more consistent in the 90th to 93rd minutes of matches.

"Especially when we can do better than this. We have the players required. It is a shame."

This outburst did not go down too well amongst some Arsenal supporters .

£50m transfer plan

Arsenal are planning to bolster their central defensive options in this and the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The Daily Star, claim the Gunners are ready to make a move for Bayern Munich's Jerome Boateng in this month, with the German seen as a short-term fix.

In addition, the report states Arteta is then prepared to launch a serious £50 million bid for Dayot Upamecano in the summer, with the Frenchman considered a potential future partner for William Saliba.

However, some Arsenal fans are keen on another central defender.

Kurzawa concern

Layvin Kurzawa was in action for Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday as the Ligue 1 leaders beat Lorient 1-0 in a cup tie.

The Gunners are searching for reinforcements to their backline, and football.london understands the France international left-back is a target following injuries to Kolasinac and Tierney.

According to France Football, Kurzawa has agreed a five-year-deal in principle with the Gunners which will see him arrive at the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer in the summer.

However, Gunners supporters may be concerned about signing the 27-year-old after one particular moment during the game.

Kurzawa's defensive defiencies were on display as he was given a torrid time on his flank by Lorient duo Jimmy Cabot and Jonathan Martins Pereira.

On one occasion, Pereira beat Kurzawa with a step-over before firing a shot towards goal but fortunately for PSG, it did not lead to a goal being conceded.
