Arsenal never used Aaron Ramsey in his best position, claims Juventus chief

Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici says new signing Aaron Ramsey was never used in his best position by Arsenal.

The Italian giants confirmed football's worst-kept secret on Thursday, when they announced that the Welshman will join when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season.

During Ramsey's 11-year spell with Arsenal he has played in a range of positions, from deep central midfield player, to number ten and even as a wide player in a 4-2-3-1.

However, Paratici believes the 28-year-old would be best used as a 'mezzala', the Italian word for the two midfielders playing either side and in advance of a central pivot in a 4-3-3, not dissimilar to the role Maurizio Sarri has tried to cast N'Golo Kante into at Chelsea.

Ramsey could be an ideal replacement for Blaise Matuidi, who will be 32 by the start of next season

“He is a different player from what we have got,” said Paratici. “We don't have someone like him in our squad.

"He is more technical, he's a final ball man, he has a nose for the goal.

“Ramsey is a player who, I reckon, has never found his position, because he has never played as a 'mezzala' in a three, which is his role.

"He can also play a bit further up the pitch, like [Simone] Perrotta did at Roma, for example."
