Arsenal morning headlines with 'no way back' for Mesut Ozil, Mikel Arteta's major striker issue

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Wednesday, 21 October.

Mesut Ozil labelled ‘yesterday’s news’ by former Arsenal striker

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell doesn’t think Mesut Ozil will play again for the north London club, labelling the German playmaker “yesterday’s news.”

Ozil has been frozen out of the first team at the Emirates Stadium, with Mikel Arteta leaving the player out of his 25-man Premier League squad. Campbell believes Ozil won’t be given the opportunity of a comeback.

“Mesut Ozil is yesterday’s news at the club,” Campbell told GentingBet (via Caught Offside). “There is no chance that he will feature for Arsenal again this season, or ever again.

Man City 1-0 Arsenal: Mikel Arteta post-match press conference

“There have been certain things that have gone on, instances where he has gone against the club, so I don’t see where there is any room for him to come back.”

The Arsenal strikers dilemma Mikel Arteta has yet to solve

Arsenal addressed a number of problem areas in their squad over the summer, but one area that remained untouched was the centre-forward’s role.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed a new contract to keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2023, but the Gabon international has been used predominantly off the left side of the attack by Arteta.

At the head of the attack, Arteta has a choice between Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah. With Martinelli sidelined through injury until March, it’s a straight choice between Lacazette and Nketiah at this moment in time.

However, as Matthew Gault notes, Arteta has yet to offer an indication over which centre-forward he prefers to lead the line. This is a dilemma he is still to solve.

What a European Premier League would mean for Arsenal

The football world was rocked by the news on Tuesday that discussions have taken place over the establishment of a £4.6billion FIFA-backed European Premier League.

Reports suggest FIFA are developing the new competition which would fundamentally change the landscape at the top of the game, with Liverpool and Manchester United believed to be leading the plans.

Chris Wheatley has run through what these proposals could mean for Arsenal if they are implemented, with the Gunners one of the clubs mentioned as potential participants.

A European Super League has been discussed for a long time, but would the implementation of a closed shop at the top of the sport be a good thing for the Gunners, even if they are invited into the fold?
