Arsenal morning headlines as Wout Weghorst told to seal transfer and Houssem Aouar swap deal

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Tuesday, 7 July.

Weghorst urged to join Gunners

Former Arsenal academy head Andries Jonker has urged Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst to join the Gunners.

The Dutch striker has netted 33 goals in 66 appearances for the Bundesliga side, as well as providing 10 assists, and said he would be open to a move to the Emirates in an interview with Bureau Sport (via VI).

“I could well imagine Weghorst at Arsenal. He could help as a hard worker and a goalscorer. He would do well in London!” Jonker told Bild, as cited by Sport Witness.

“Moving to Arsenal matters more than many other clubs. Weghorst could certainly improve his position in the national team.”

Weghorst could potentially be a replacement for Gunners star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has been linked with an exit.

Mikel Arteta on Champions League hopes

Arteta wants Ceballos stay

Mikel Arteta wants to keep Dani Ceballos at Arsenal beyond his season-long loan deal, despite the deal not being entirely in Arsenal’s control.

The Spaniard is on loan from Real Madrid but his future beyond this summer is unclear. Ceballos is unlikely to return to the Spanish capital, but that does not necessarily mean Arsenal will be able to sign him permanently.

"I am really happy with him, the way he is evolving and I love how much he likes to play football," Arteta said of Ceballos, via football.london.

"The passion that he puts in every training session and every game, you have to see just his celebration. Whether he's on the pitch or on the bench, the way he celebrates, he puts his life into it.

"Again, I am really happy with him, I think he's evolving the right way and is becoming a really important player for us.

"We are talking to the club. Obviously, we don't own the player, it's not in our hands so the clubs will need to have communication and see what we can do."

Gunners fans want Aouar swap deal

Many Arsenal fans want the club to move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar in a swap deal for out-of-favour midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

A report in The Athletic outlines how the Gunners are keen to move Guendouzi on, with the Frenchman training away from the first team in recent weeks.

Guendouzi has not been involved in a matchday squad since his clash with Neal Maupay in last month’s defeat by Brighton and Hove Albion.

Now, as highlighted by football.london, many Gunners fans believe the club should look to send Guendouzi to Lyon and land Aouar in exchange.
