Arsenal morning headlines as Tierney praises Arteta, Liverpool's shock plan for Partey transfer

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Monday, May 11.

Arsenal’s Thomas Partey deal scuppered?

Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as part of a swap deal for Thomas Partey, weakening Arsenal’s chances of landing their key summer target, according to The Sun.

Arsenal are reportedly unable to afford Partey’s £45m buyout clause, and while Atletico are expected to sell him this summer they are now interested in a straight swap deal.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly unlikely to want to part with Oxlade-Chamberlain, who still has three years remaining on his Liverpool contract, but with the transfer market badly impacted by football’s global suspension swap deals could become more common than ever before.

Kieran Tierney impressed by Mikel Arteta’s attention to detail

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has opened up on what makes new manager Mikel Arteta so special , highlighting the detailed analysis and preparation behind the Spaniard’s approach.

The Scotland international is yet to play a game under Arteta, but already he is pleased with the work being carried out by the Arsenal manager.

"His analysis is amazing,” Tierney told Sky Sports on YouTube. "In Dubai for the winter break I was doing some one-on-one work with him & that's when I realised this is brilliant, I'm learning a lot just in a rehab session."

Tierney went on to speak about the organisation of the team shape under Arteta, which has seen Arsenal’s form dramatically improve since the chaotic final days under Unai Emery.

“The way he knows what's going to happen in a game and how it's going to happen, what you should do and where you're going to get pressed from and where your options should be,” Tierney said.

"You should know where a left midfielder's going to be, where a centre midfielder's going to be so you can just play in sync like everyone's got one brain and I think that's perfect. Hopefully when I'm fit I get the chance to play and I can build up fitness and confidence again."

Government update makes Premier League football unlikely in June

Boris Johnson has provided an update on the government’s policy and guidelines for coronavirus, leaving the Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’ in a precarious position.

The government signalled that lockdown would continue, and that current measures will not be lifted until at least June 1. The Premier League may not be able to get back underway in the proposed time frame of mid-June.

Johnson also announced that anyone arriving in the UK via air travel would be subject to a 14-day quarantine, which could have implications for the numerous Premier League players currently outside the country.

The Premier League is set to host a crucial meeting on Monday, with as many as eight clubs now against the proposal to play at neutral venues, according to The Telegraph .
