Good morning, Arsenal fans. Here are your morning headlines for Wednesday, June 17.
Simeone discusses Arsenal interest in Partey
Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has been strongly linked with a summer move to England and boss Diego Simeone has now spoken on his future.
The Ghanaian has enjoyed a starring role for the Spanish capital club this season with Arsenal linked with a move to bolster their midfield.
"When he's at his best level consistently, he's so good that all the best teams in Europe are looking at him,” Simeone has said, as cited by football.london.
Partey has made 173 first-team appearances for Simeone’s side – 36 of which have arrived this season – and the club are keen to extend his contract in the Spanish capital and raise his €50 million buyout clause.
Arteta wants new Luiz deal
There are less than two weeks remaining on David Luiz’s contract at Arsenal and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen for the centre-back to pen an extension.
The Brazilian is on a hefty £125,000-per-week deal at the Emirates but that is due to expire on June 30.
Arsenal are yet to trigger the one-year extension in his deal but Arteta is hopeful Luiz will remain with the club beyond the 2019/20 campaign.
“I’m really happy with David,” Arteta said, via football.london. “I want to keep him here with us.
“He’s been a key role model for me since I joined. I like what he produces on the pitch. I like his influence around the players and the club.
“I’d love to keep him.”
Mustafi interested in Bundesliga switch
Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi admits a potential transfer to the Bundesliga is ‘interesting’ and pointed out how the league is his ‘home’.
The German central defender faces an uncertain future in north London and has started just six Premier League games this season.
Mustafi - who joined the Gunners from Valencia in the summer of 2016 - has never played in the Bundesliga but is keen to experience German football in the future.
“It is difficult to foresee how the transfer phase will run in the current situation,” Mustafi told Bild, via the Daily Star.
“(The Bundesliga is) always interesting. Sportingly, it has undergone a great development. Besides, it’s my home.
"Many are amazed at the level there. In England, they were very surprised at how well the Bundesliga managed to restart.
“The Premier League has certainly taken this as an example."
