Arsenal morning headlines as Saliba reunion planned and £9m windfall to boost transfer budget

Here are the Arsenal morning headlines on Saturday, May 23.

Milan move for Mustafi - reports

AC Milan are reportedly ready to offer Arsenal €10million (£9million) to land central defender Shkodran Mustafi this summer.

A report in Todofichajes, via Team Talk, claims the Rossoneri are monitoring a summer move for the German defender.

Mustafi joined the Gunners from Valencia in the summer of 2016 but has largely failed to live up to the expectations despite making 133 first-team appearances for the club to date.

The 28-year-old has fallen from prominence at the club this season with just six Premier League starts following last summer’s signing of David Luiz from Chelsea, while Pablo Mari was signed on loan from Flamengo in January.

Gunners want Saliba’s partner - reports

There is a great deal of excitement at the Emirates for the imminent arrival of central defender William Saliba, but Arsenal may want to sign his central defensive partner too at Saint-Etienne.

According to French outlet But! Football Club, via Sport Witness, the Gunners, along with Everton, are eyeing defender Wesley Fofana.

Aged just 19, it is reported that the defender wants to stay at the Ligue 1 club for at least another year but he could be a long-term target for Premier League suitors.

With reports that Shkodran Mustafi may be sold this summer, the age of David Luiz and Pablo Mari being just a loan deal, it is not surprising Arsenal are being linked with young defensive stars.

Pochettino met with Emery

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed he met up with Unai Emery after both were sacked by their respective North London clubs.

The two met three times in opposing dugouts during Premier League North London derbies, but they shared a camaraderie - particularly when both were dismissed from their roles in November.

"Before the pandemic, me and Jesus (Perez, Pochettino’s assistant) met with Unai Emery, sharing a coffee. We met to talk and to share our experiences,” Pochettino told a Zoom interview, via football.london.

"We were working in different clubs. We were at the enemy, but we finished at around the same time and then we were taking a coffee and people were walking past and saying 'Unai and Pochettino and Jesus are now sharing a coffee!'

"It was in Cockfosters, very close to Arsenal and Tottenham’s training grounds. It was very funny."
