Arsenal morning headlines as Mikel Arteta issues David Luiz update and £35.9m swap deal eyed

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for June 18.

Arteta reacts to Manchester City defeat

Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City on Wednesday night in a match which was largely decided by David Luiz’s 25 minute cameo.

He replaced the injured Pablo Mari in the 24th minute, then made an error which allowed Raheem Sterling to give City the lead in first-half stoppage time.

Two minutes after the restart the Brazilian fouled Riyad Mahrez in the box to concede a penalty and was sent off as a result.

“He's always going to try to give you his best for the condition that he's at and he's tried again,” Mikel Arteta said after the game. “It didn't work out for him or the team but that's it.

"I don't know what will happen with his contract. I know what happened today, I know the way David reacted, as a player and as a person as well he can handle the situation.”

North London duo to battle for Fraser

Ryan Fraser is leaving Bournemouth this summer when his contract expires. Despite the club being mired in relegation trouble, the 26-year old has declined to sign a short-term extension beyond June 30.

His deal will therefore end before the conclusion of the campaign, with the Scot keen to avoid injury before signing for a new club.

It seems he will be heading to north London, but whether that is to join Arsenal or Tottenham remains to be seen, as both clubs are reportedly interested in signing him.

Fraser has not been as effective this season as he was in 2018/19, but that could be due to the uncertainty around his future.

Feargal Brennan has looked into which club would suit Fraser best.

Kluivert to sign for Arsenal?

Arsenal are being heavily linked with a move for Roma winger Justin Kluivert.

The 21-year old is valued at €40million (£35.9m) by Roma, so Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who is currently on loan at the Stadio Olimpico from the Gunners, may be used as a makeweight in the deal.

Calciomercato report that Arsenal are willing to offer Kluivert a £3.5 million salary per season across a four-year contract, which would see the young Dutchman double his current wage.

Arteta is keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of his first full season in charge at the Emirates.
