Arsenal morning headlines as Merson makes Arteta job claim and Szoboszlai hopes dealt a blow

Here are the Arsenal morning headlines for Sunday, November 29.

Merson says Arteta is safe but selection worries persist

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s position is not under threat, despite the Gunners’ recent struggles – according to Paul Merson.

The former Arsenal midfielder is confident that Arteta will be given time, despite the team winning only two of their last seven Premier League matches, losing four.

But Merson, writing in his Daily Star column, believes that Arteta does not know his best team.

“Nicolas Pepe is out of his depth and he’s going to have to do it against much better teams than Molde to change my opinion,” he wrote.

“I don’t think Mikel Arteta knows his best team and he’s been there a long time now.

“Arteta is safe as houses, he’s going to get time. But he needs to find his best team and stick with it.”

And ex-Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes that supporters must be patient with Arteta.

“Listen, it’s a transition period,” he told 90min. “Mikel has his ideas, but it takes time.”

No Partey for Arsenal

Arsenal are set to be without midfielder Thomas Partey when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

The Gunners host Nuno Espirito Santo’s men in the final game before fans are allowed back into the Emirates Stadium.

But football.london understands that they will once again be without Partey due to injury.

The Ghanaian, who was signed for £45 million from Atletico Madrid in the summer, came off against Aston Villa before the international break with a thigh problem.

He missed the goalless draw with Leeds United and now it looks like he will be out of the game against Wolves, too.

Leipzig favourite to capture Arsenal target

Arsenal's hopes of signing young Hungarian Dominik Szoboszlai appear to have been dealt a major blow with German club RB Leipzig closing in ahead of the January transfer window.

The Athletic claims that the German club are looking to trigger the RB Salzburg midfielder’s £22.5 million release clause – and are confident of pulling off the transfer.

Arsenal are believed to be keen on the 20-year-old, but they are not the only club with an interest, with the likes of Real Madrid also tipped to make a move.

But it seems as though Leipzig are the favourites to clinch Szoboszlai’s signature, especially given their history of luring talent from their Red Bull sister club.
