Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Tuesday, October 27.
The player Wright wants Arsenal to sign
Arsenal had a very decent summer in the transfer market, but there is still further work to be done before Mikel Arteta has a squad which truly meets his requirements.
Former Gunner Ian Wright has been very impressed with what he has seen from new midfielder Thomas Partey so far. He’s keen for Arsenal to sign a player they missed out on though, as he explained to Premier League Productions.
“They still need more, he’s [Partey] not the main one and that’s why Arsenal went for Houssem Aouar as well. I’m hoping they can still get him at some stage but Partey is a massive improvement on what Arsenal have got.”
Wright’s other comments on Partey are well worth a read too, and are available here.
Hidden gems for Arsenal
While there seems little doubt that Arsenal will try again to sign Aouar, there could be other good players available who play for teams in the less fashionable leagues.
Take Red Bull Salzburg, for instance. They impressed everyone in the Champions League last season, and the likes of Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino have since gone on to join top clubs in Germany and England respectively.
They have another star who could be suitable for Arsenal in the shape of Zambian forward Patson Daka.
Joe Donnohue has taken a closer look at Daka and two other unheralded names who could prove to be good signings for the Gunners.
Arteta and Edu in disagreement?
For a club to be successful, they need everybody at every level of the organisation to pull in the same direction.
Yet French outlet L’Equipe (via Football365) have claimed that there was a difference of opinion at Arsenal in the summer regarding which midfielder they should go for.
They claim that Arteta was most interested in signing Aouar, but was overruled by the club’s technical director, Edu, who was determined that they purchase Partey instead.
As the Gunners got a top player in Partey, it’s hardly the end of the world for Arteta though.
