Arsenal morning headlines as Houssem Aouar among January options and big Mesut Ozil claim made

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Thursday, November 12.

Arsenal January options after Szoboszlai blow

Arsenal may have to turn to alternative targets after reports claimed that they are set to miss out on RB Salzburg winger Dominik Szoboszlai.

According to Bild, RB Leipzig have stepped up their interest in the Hungary international and are said to be plotting a £17.8m bid.

Were he to join the Bundesliga side, there are four promising targets for Arsenal to consider, writes Feargal Brennan.

The Gunners could look to revive their interest in Lyon’s Houssem Aouar having failed to secure the 22-year-old’s signature over the summer.

Alternatively, they could pursue a deal for RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku, who has impressed for Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Arsenal are also said to be eyeing Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella with The Sun claiming they will battle Manchester United for the Italian’s signature.

Finally, AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu could be worth considering with the Turkish player out of contract at the end of the season.

The Lille rising star likened to Ozil

Former Arsenal target Yusuf Yazici seems destined for the top after breaking through at Lille, as detailed by the Daily Mail .

Yazici, 23, has caught the eye in Europe this season with two Europa League hat-tricks against Sparta Prague and AC Milan.

The attacking midfielder, who has been likened to Mesut Ozil , joined the French side from Trabzonspor in 2019 following interest from Arsenal.

According to Turkish-Football.com , Arsene Wenger scouted Yazici back in 2017.

With Ozil’s days at Arsenal seemingly numbered, Yazici could be the ideal candidate to fill the creative void left by the German’s absence.

Arteta could change Ozil stance - Adams

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta may yet change his stance on exiled midfielder Ozil, according to former Gunners captain Tony Adams.

Ozil is set to leave the Emirates Stadium when his contract expires in 2021 after being left out of Arteta’s Premier League squad.

However, Adams feels as though the 32-year-old could still have a future under Arteta in north London.

"Ozil, for me, is one of the best creative players in the world,” Adams told Sky Sports .

“What he struggles with at times is the defensive side of the game.

"To win the league, you need great players. The Dennis Bergkamps. I asked Dennis now and again to get back in and get back behind the ball and do a little bit for us and make it a little bit difficult for them.

"That's all that Ozil needs to do but when you're putting him on the sides and asking him to go with runners, he's not got that.

“What he has got, if he played in this team, is someone like Partey who goes, 'Here you go, here he comes, cover that one.' At times, Dennis let people go and Patrick [Vieira] slid over or Manu Petit, these people that were unrecognised, great leaders and great team players.”
