Arsenal morning headlines as Gunners learn new way to fund Upamecano transfer, Grealish update

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Tuesday, July 14.

Arsenal backed to move for Grealish

Former Premier League midfielder Craig Burley thinks Arsenal should attempt to sign Jack Grealish this summer.

The Aston Villa playmaker has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, with Dean Smith’s side four points adrift of safety with three games to play.

And Burley believes Grealish would improve the Arsenal team as Mikel Arteta seeks additions ahead of next term.

“Jack Grealish is a difficult one," he told ESPN. "I don't see him going to Man City. I don't think they'd be interested.

"I think you're looking at Man Utd, Arsenal... I think he would improve Arsenal, he'd certainly improve Tottenham. Those are the types of clubs [that he would suit].”

Mislintat could help Upamecano move

Arsenal’s defeat by Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday underlined the need for Arteta to strengthen his defence this summer.

RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates, although Arsenal may first need to sell some players to raise funds for his purchase.

And that is where Sven Mislintat, the Gunners’ former head of recruitment, could come in.

Mislintat is now in control of transfers at Stuttgart, and football.london understands they have expressed an interest in signing Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos on loan.

Arsenal could seek to sell Mavropanos permanently instead, with the Greek out of contract at the end of next season.

If they are able to persuade Stuttgart to pay a fee, that could help Arsenal in their bid to sign Upamecano.

Arsenal remain in Kluivert race - report

Arsenal still have a chance of signing Roma winger Justin Kluivert this summer, according to reports.

The former Ajax man has been linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks, with Arteta keen to bolster his attacking options.

However, Arsenal’s hopes of landing Kluivert appeared to be over when talks over a potential swap deal involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan didn’t take place.

Yet the Gunners are still hopeful of landing the Netherlands international ahead of next season, according to reports in Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian outlet states Arsenal are still “in the running” for a player who is valued at €30million (£26.9m).
