Arsenal morning headlines as Gunners dealt Luka Jovic transfer blow, Kai Havertz stars in return

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Tuesday, May 19.

Arsenal dealt transfer blow - report

Arsenal’s rumoured pursuit of Luka Jovic has hit a snag, according to Cadena Cope.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Serbia international, who joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer.

Jovic has only scored two La Liga goals for Madrid this term, and his days at the Bernabeu appeared to be numbered.

However, Zinedine Zidane has now reportedly decided to keep faith with the former Frankfurt forward.

Madrid had been considering a move for Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland, but they are now prepared to give Jovic another chance.

That means Arsenal will have to look elsewhere as Mikel Arteta seeks to bolster his attack.

Havertz stars in Bundesliga return

Kai Havertz produced one of the best individual performances of the weekend as the Bundesliga made its return.

The Germany international has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past, with former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat having worked hard to secure a deal.

The 20-year-old has since emerged as a reported target for several clubs across Europe.

And it was not hard to see why after his role in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen on Monday.

Havertz scored twice in a man-of-the-match display at the Weser Stadium, leaving Arsenal fans dreaming of a summer swoop for the attacking midfielder.

Medical experts issue warning to Arsenal

The Premier League’s leading medical expert has issued a warning to Arsenal and their fellow top-flight clubs ahead of the potential resumption of the season.

In a meeting on Monday, all 20 Premier League sides gave the green light to launching stage one of Project Restart.

That will allow players to return to training in small groups this week, but the Premier League's chief medical advisor has warned that there will be no quick fix to the issues currently facing Arsenal and their competitors.

“They’ve made it very clear that the social situation, the public health situation, is not going to change over the next 6-12 months," said Dr Mark Gillet.

That raises the prospect of Premier League matches being staged behind closed doors for up to a year.
