Arsenal morning headlines as Gunners could receive £13m cash injection, Lucas Torreira update

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Thursday, September 3.

United beat Arsenal to van de Beek

Manchester United have completed the signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax for a fee rising to £39million.

Tottenham Hotspur were also said to be interested in the midfielder, with Arsenal seemingly focused on other targets.

However, the player’s agent says the Gunners were also in for the Dutchman but couldn’t afford the asking price.

“Yes, they (Arsenal) really wanted him,” Sjaak Swart told Showtime.

Arsenal's next move after Gabriel

“But they just couldn’t get the money for a transfer. Even the biggest clubs struggle. Arsenal is a great club, but Manchester United will certainly be an interesting adventure.

“There were more clubs with interest, such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal. There were six in total.”

Torreira to Italy?

Lucas Torreira could be on his way out of Arsenal this summer, with Fiorentina said to hold an interest.

Corriere dello Sport report the Serie A side are keen to take the Uruguay international on loan.

Arsenal are set to re-sign Dani Ceballos on another season-long loan from Real Madrid, while the Gunners have also been linked with Houssem Aouar and Thomas Partey.

Mikel Arteta may therefore look to shift at least one of his current midfield crop, with Torreira among the contenders.

The tough-tackling 24-year-old made 17 starts in the Premier League last term, although only six of those came in 2020.

Arsenal set for cash injection

Arsenal’s transfer kitty could be boosted to the tune of £13m after Kevin Volland completed a move from Bayer Leverkusen to Monaco.

The German’s transfer to Ligue 1 might appear unrelated to the Gunners, but Sport Bild write that Bayer could use the proceeds to sign Sead Kolasinac.

Arsenal will listen to offers for the defender, particularly as Arteta needs to sell before he can buy.

Schalke are also keeping tabs on their former player Kolasinac, who moved to north London in the summer of 2017.
