Arsenal morning headlines as Edu closes in on £22.2m deal to fund Thomas Partey, Runarsson eyed

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Tuesday, 15 September.

Sale of Lucas Torreira could pave way for Arsenal to make immediate upgrade

Arsenal have agreed to sell Lucas Torreira to Torino, which could pave the way for the Gunners to make an immediate upgrade to their midfield.

According to the Daily Express, Torino have agreed to pay €24 million (£22.2 million) for the Uruguayan international which will go some way towards funding a move for Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey.

Torreira will join the Serie A club on an initial loan agreement before making the move permanent next summer, with a fee already settled upon between the two sides.

Partey is a long term target for the Gunners, with Mikel Arteta believed to be desperate to lure the Ghanaian midfielder to the Emirates Stadium this summer as he looks to overhaul his squad.

Mikel Arteta: Gabriel Magalhaes has "special qualities"

Willian’s key role in evolution of Mikel Arteta’s tactical masterplan

Arsenal got their Premier League campaign up and running with a 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, with Willian a key influence for the Gunners on his debut.

Indeed, the Brazilian international, who signed on a free transfer from Chelsea this summer, made a good first impression as Arsenal started their season on a positive note at Craven Cottage.

football.london’s Art de Roche looked at how Willian is already central to Arteta’s tactical masterplan for the Gunners, with the match against Fulham revealing why the Spaniard was so keen to sign the winger.

There are still some areas of Willian’s game that need fine-tuning, but there was enough in his debut to suggest he will be a success at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal open talks with French club over Emiliano Martinez replacement

Emiliano Martinez is expected to complete a £20 million move to Aston Villa soon and Arsenal have already opened talks over a potential replacement for the goalkeeper.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Gunners have identified Dijon’s Runar Alex Runarsson as a target and have started discussions with the Ligue 1 outfit over a transfer that could be worth around £1.5 million.

The Gunners had been linked with Brentford’s David Raya, with the Bees slapping a £10 million price tag on their number one goalkeeper.

However, it seems Arsenal are instead targeting Icelandic shot-stopper Runarsson in what would be a low-cost, low-risk move for the club.
