Arsenal morning headlines as Dani Ceballos makes Real Madrid claim, van Persie talks Man Utd transfer

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Thursday, May 14.

Bergkamp's Newcastle goal Premier League’s best

Arsenal legend Ian Wright and the Premier League's all-time top scorer Alan Shearer believe Dennis Bergkamp's iconic goal against Newcastle United is the best scored in the division’s history.

Few Gunners fans will ever forget the Dutchman's strike against the Magpies in 2002; in a single movement Bergkamp controlled a pass, pirouetted around Nikos Dabizas and then slotted home.

And it’s that moment of ingenuity that the two former England strikers believe is unrivalled in the Premier League.

“No-one has ever scored a goal like that and I don't think anyone will ever score it again," Shearer told the Match of the Day podcast. "He absolutely meant it, the touch, the technique and the finish was exceptional."

Wright added: "The pass was behind him so he has to improvise, and because he was such a great technician, he scored one of the greatest goals I have ever seen. If he had a bad touch in training, everybody noticed, because he was so good."

Van Persie’s key question for Fergie before joining United

Robin van Persie has revealed he asked Sir Alex Ferguson how long he would continue to manage Manchester United moments before completing his transfer from Arsenal.

The Dutch striker agreed to move to Old Trafford in a controversial £22m deal in the summer of 2012 and would fire United to the 2012/13 Premier League title.

That campaign would prove to be Ferguson’s last in charge. The Scot retired at the end of the season and that came as a surprise to van Persie given the answer he received to his question the year prior.

“That was a bit of a shock,” van Persie told Premier League Productions, via Metro.

“Just before I signed, I literally had the pen in my hand and I said ‘One more thing Sir Alex, how much longer are you planning to stay?’ and he said ‘At least three more years’.

“To be fair the reason why he stopped was family reasons and family comes first. He was one of the big reasons I signed so it was a blow but then that is football. players come and go, managers too.”

Ceballos: Bale has earned Real Madrid trust

Dani Ceballos insists Gareth Bale remains a “fundamental player” for Real Madrid and believes the Welsh star deserves more respect for what he has achieved at the Bernabeu.

Ceballos, who joined Arsenal on a season-long loan from Real last summer, spent two years as a teammate of Bale in the Spanish capital, the first of which culminated in the 30-year-old scoring twice in the 2018 Champions League final win over Liverpool.

Yet Bale continues to have a difficult relationship with the Madrid fans and has constantly been linked with a return to the Premier League.

"It [the Premier League] is a division that would be quite good for him,” Ceballos told Deportes Cuatro. “But he is a fundamental player for Madrid.

"Let us not forget everything he has given the club. Whoever does not trust him, put on the Champions League final. He has given enough to the club."
