Arsenal morning headlines as Aubameyang waits for Barcelona, Odsonne Edouard transfer claim made

Here are the Arsenal morning headlines for Wednesday, July 22.

Waiting for Barca

Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has yet to renew contract talks with the club as he waits for Barcelona to make a move.

That is according to the Mirror, who cite a report in Spanish publication Sport claiming the Gabonese striker believes the Catalan giants will make an approach for him.

Aubameyang is said to be Barcelona’s “Plan B” should they fail to sign Inter striker Lautaro Martinez this summer.

The 31-year-old is out of contract next summer and Arsenal will risk losing him for nothing if they do not tie him to a new deal or sell him this summer.

Arsenal 0 - 1 Aston Villa: Mikel Arteta post-match press conference

Arteta responds

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has spoken about the “Back Arteta, Kroenke out" banner flown by a plane over Villa Park on Tuesday. Arsenal lost 1-0 to relegation strugglers Aston Villa amid suggestions the club’s board are not going to financially back the manager this summer.

However, Arteta dismissed the claims and said club owner Stan Kroenke, other board members and himself were all pulling in the same direction

"The Kroenkes, the board and the sporting director - everybody, I feel full backing with them,” Arteta told Sky Sports.

"What we don't know is a lot of things and we have to wait a little bit of time to be there.

"But backing and support? Hundred per cent, I don't need that.

"The fans have to believe what I'm saying because, if I did not believe it, I would not say that."

Striker ‘price’

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, and Hoops boss Neil Lennon admits the striker “has a price”.

Despite the 22-year-old scoring 27 goals for Celtic this season, the Glasgow giants have yet to receive any offers for the Frenchman.

However, they are not ruling out his sale this summer to raise funds. Lennon told the Daily Star: “It is difficult to say, particularly in this climate currently, that a player is not going anywhere, because everyone has a price.

“Ideally we don’t want to sell our best players and we will remain steadfast on that. But if an offer comes in then I’m sure the club will consider it and do the best thing possible for the club going forward.”
