Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Friday, September 4.
Sanchez opens up on United nightmare
Alexis Sanchez has said that he was prepared to ‘cancel’ his contract after just one training session at Manchester United.
The former Arsenal forward joined United in January 2018 with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving to the Emirates Stadium.
However, Sanchez failed to make an impact at Old Trafford and in 2019 left to join Inter Milan on loan after just five goals in 45 appearances for the Reds, making his move permanent in August.
"I got the opportunity to go to United and it seemed tempting to me,” said Sanchez in an Instagram video.
“It was something nice for me, because when I was a kid I liked that club a lot.
"I ended up signing without much information about what was happening in the move. The first days that I was with my colleagues, sometimes there are things that you do not realise until you arrive.
"The first training I had I realised many things. I got home and I told my representative: 'Can't the contract be terminated to return to Arsenal?'
"They start laughing and I told them that something did not sit right with me. It had already been signed."
Arsenal at odds with Atleti over Partey
Arsenal and Atletico Madrid remain apart in their valuation of midfielder Thomas Partey, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners are hoping to sign the Ghanaian after completing a £25million deal for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes earlier this week.
However, Atletico have once again informed the north Londoners that Partey will only be sold if his £44.6million (€50m) release clause is met.
There had been suggestions that Alexandre Lacazette could move to the Spanish capital as part of the deal, but Atletico reportedly want the Partey negotiations to remain separate from any potential talks for the French striker.
PL decides against five-sub rule
Arsenal are one of a number of clubs to be left disappointed by the decision to abandon the five-substitution rule for the 2020/21 season.
Clubs were permitted to make up to five changes in a match when football returned following lockdown.
However, clubs on Thursday rejected the proposal once more having initially voted against it in July.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United were among the top-six sides thought to be in favour of using the five-sub rule throughout the upcoming season.
It had been criticised in the final weeks of the 2019/20 season by those who felt it offered an advantage to teams with bigger squads, while others believed the ability to make five subs lessened the risk of injury during a congested fixture schedule.
