Arsenal morning headlines as Arteta makes Saliba admission and Griezmann tipped for transfer

Here are your Arsenal morning headlines for Friday, July 3.

Antoine Griezmann tipped to join Gunners

French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann has been linked with a move away from Barcelona after just one year with the Catalan club.

The 29-year-old forward has scored 148 La Liga goals over the past 10 seasons but struggled to build an understanding with Lionel Messi, and was left on the bench until injury time of Barca’s 2-2 draw with his former side Atletico Madrid this week.

"It's difficult to put him on without destabilising the team," said Barcelona coach Quique Setien to justify his decision not to bring on Griezmann until the dying minutes.

Mikel Arteta on Thomas Partey and transfer plans

That situation could see him exit the Camp Nou this summer, and according to The Express, Arsenal and Inter are two potential suitors who would jump at the chance to sign him.

Here are all the latest Gunners transfer rumours.

Mikel Arteta discusses William Saliba plans

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has opened up on his plans to integrate William Saliba into the squad this summer, having loaned him back to boyhood club Saint-Etienne this season.

The French campaign has long since been curtailed, but there had been talk the 19-year-old centre-half could potentially see his loan extended in order to play the Coupe de France final against PSG later this month. According to Arteta, discussions remain ongoing.

"Both clubs have [had] some conversations,” he said.

“At the moment they haven't reached any agreement for him to play in the final. At the end of the day, he's our player. We want the best for him, we want to protect him and want him in the best possible condition for us when he joins us.

“It's something that is being dealt [with] at club level."

Here’s every word the Gunners coach had to say from his pre-match press conference ahead of Wolves this weekend.

How Reiss Nelson could benefit from formation change

Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Norwich City in midweek saw a rare start for Reiss Nelson under Arteta, and there were positive signs for the 20-year-old academy graduate.

He was handed just his sixth Premier League start of the campaign, having returned from a loan at Bundesliga side Hoffenheim last season, and was used on the right-hand side of a front three in the emphatic victory.

Here at football.London, we’ve taken a closer look at what Nelson offered on the right-wing, how he linked up with wing-back Hector Bellerin, and the wider benefits of Arteta’s 3-4-3 system.
