Arsenal mocked by Spartak Moscow following Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the Emirates

Arsenal have been mocked by Russian Premier League side Spartak Moscow, following the Gunners’ defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Romelu Lukaku's opener and Reece James' strike helped secure three points for Thomas Tuchel’s side as Mikel Arteta was put under even more pressure by the Arsenal fans.

Most of the crowd were supportive on the day but jeers could be heard at half-time and full-time as the struggling Gunners headed for the changing rooms.

And to make matters worse for Arsenal after what was another disappointing display, the club have been openly mocked on Twitter by Spartak Moscow.

Tweeting just after the north London club went 2-0 down on the day, the Russian side said: “Why couldn’t we play this Arsenal yesterday?”

The tweet was made in reference to Spartak’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal Tula on Saturday afternoon.

Spartak’s actions certainly rubs extra salt into the wounds after what’s been a poor start to the 2021/22 campaign for Arteta’s team.

Defeat to Chelsea means Arsenal sit 19th in the table after two games, and with Champions Manchester City next in the league, things could get a whole lot worse before the international break.

When asked about how the club will prepare for that game in his post-match press conference, Arteta said that his side will not give up so early on in the season as there’s still plenty of time to turn it around. “[I will] try to give them confidence and the tools and belief that football changes really quickly. The league table is not going to be decided in August.

“I don’t want to see anybody feeling sorry for themselves or for the team because that’s not going to help us.

“I want a team, a squad of individuals, that wants to fight, that wants to face the challenge that is ahead of us because normally when you do that you get the reward. That’s what I'm going to try to do with them.”
