Arsenal are hoping to have Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber back in contention for the Carabao Cup final.

The Gunners face Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, when the first piece of major silverware of the English domestic season will be on the line.

Arsenal are still in contention for four trophies this term and beating title rivals City would be a major boost to carry into the latter stages of their bid for a first Premier League title in 22 years.

Odegaard has been out for a month with a knee injury, missing six matches across all competitions.

His only appearance since February 12 was as a substitute in the north London derby last month, when he had not fully recovered from the problem he picked up against Brentford.

Timber, meanwhile, missed the win over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in midweek after being forced off in the first half against Everton last Saturday with an ankle issue.

Timber was on Friday included in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming international window and the 24-year-old could yet be involved in the final against City.

“We have another training session tomorrow, so the ones that are in contention hopefully can give us good news,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said when asked for an injury update at his pre-final press conference on Friday.

Pushed on Odegaard and Timber specifically, he replied: “We have another session tomorrow, so let's see if they can make it.”

Arsenal will definitely remain without Mikel Merino, who is sidelined for a period of months after undergoing surgery on a rare and serious foot injury in February.
