Arsenal: Mikel Arteta provides Leandro Trossard injury update ahead of Manchester United trip

Mikel Arteta is confident Arsenal forward Leandro Trossard will be fit for the start of the new Premier League season next week.

Trossard was absent from the matchday squad on Saturday afternoon as the Gunners beat Athletic Club 3-0 in a friendly to claim the Emirates Cup.

The Belgian international was one of three doubts ahead of the game, but both Kai Havertz and Riccardo Calafiori were passed fit - the former scoring the third goal and the latter playing the opening 45 minutes.

This means Trossard still has not played since injuring his groin in a pre-season defeat to north London rivals Tottenham last month.

Arteta, however, is confident the 30-year-old will be fit for Arsenal’s opening Premier League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

When asked if Trossard was okay, Arteta said: “I think he is going to be in a few days.

“He had a little niggle in the groin - but he should be fine.”

Trossard featured in every single Premier League fixture for Arsenal last season, scoring eight goals and weighing in with the same number assists.

Though, he faces a race against the clock to be named in the squad that travels to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ and therefore be in with a chance of persevering his run of consecutive Premier League appearances.
