Arsenal midfielder Willian set to walk away from Gunners contract ahead of Corinthians transfer

Willian will become a Corinthians player in the next 48 hours after walking away from his Arsenal contract, football.london understands.

The 32-year-old signed for the Gunners on a free transfer from Chelsea last summer, and struggled to make the desired impact in Mikel Arteta's side.

Currently behind the likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard and Reiss Nelson in the pecking order at Emirates Stadium, Willian made it clear he wanted to leave the club this summer following talks with technical director Edu.

The Gunners have been unable to attract suitors for the Brazilian midfielder this summer because of his huge wages.

Sources close to Willian insist that the Brazilian "wants to do the right thing" and is set to "walk away" from his contract, with Arsenal potentially saving £15-20million due to the early termination.

David Beckham's Inter Miami side were previously linked for the player who had 8 goal involvements in 35 appearances last season in all competitions.

Technical director Edu and head of football operations Richard Garlick are currently focused on outgoings, with a number of fringe players set to leave the club in the coming days.

As exclusively revealed by football.london , Lucas Torreira joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan deal last week.

Sead Kolasinac's move to Fenerbahce appears in doubt however, while Eddie Nketiah is a target of Crystal Palace and could be sold before the August 31 deadline.
