Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey to undergo scan on injury sustained in Aston Villa defeat

Arsenal are sweating on the injury sustained by summer signing Thomas Partey during Sunday’s abject defeat by Aston Villa.

The Ghanaian midfielder started the 3-0 Premier League loss at Emirates Stadium, but appeared to sustain a thigh issue inside 10 minutes while attempting to score past former Gunners goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

Partey was able to continue for the remainder of the first half before eventually being replaced at the interval by Dani Ceballos.

The 27-year-old is now set to undergo a scan to determine the severity of the injury.

“We don't know, we have to scan him tomorrow or the day after,” Mikel Arteta said of Partey’s injury after the game.

“He felt it straight away after seven or eight minutes.”

The loss of Partey for any sustained period of time would come as a huge blow to Arsenal.

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder has already established himself as a key figure under Arteta since a high-profile £45million switch on transfer deadline day, impressing in five appearances across all competitions for his new club to date.
