Arsenal midfielder's agent hits back at 'false comments' as Granit Xhaka pictured signing new contract

Granit Xhaka is fully focused on achieving success with Arsenal after signing a new contract with the club, the player's agent Jose Noguera has told football.london

Xhaka was linked with Italian side Roma this summer but a move didn't happen after the clubs failed to agree on a fee.

The 28-year-old recently signed a contract extension with the club which will see him stay at the club until at least 2024.

Reports in Italy on Monday had claimed that Xhaka 'regrets' that the move to Roma didn't work out, but Noguera says comments from a figure who is not connected to his management agency are inaccurate.

"These quotes are completely false," Xhaka's agent Noguera told football.london.

"The person has no connection to the management of Granit Xhaka and is not the agent of Granit.

"It is true that we were speaking with Roma this summer, but Granit has repeatedly said that he is happy at Arsenal and the truth is that he always wanted to stay at the club.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has praised Xhaka in recent weeks for his professionalism which was underlined by his decision to hand the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder the captain's armband in the opening two Premier League games of the season.

"He has played for Arsenal since 2016, won two FA Cup trophies, reached a European final and played over 200 games for the club," said Noguera.

"Those within football have always spoken about Granit's leadership qualities and his professionalism.

"He wants to achieve more success with Arsenal and is fully focused on achieving those goals."

Xhaka also spoke to Arsenal's official website after the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday, where he reiterated his commitment to the club

“I’m very happy, I’m still here," Xhaka added.

“I’ve signed a new contract of course and I want to give back, first of all to our staff, and then after to our fans.

"They know I will give everything - in every game and every training session. So yeah, I think we have to show that as a team soon.”
