Arsenal midfielder poised to complete transfer to Turkish club Besiktas

Mohamed Elneny is reportedly set to join Turkish side Besiktas on a loan deal, according to reports.

The Egyptian midfielder is surplus to requirements at the Emirates having failed to feature in any of the Gunners' opening fixtures this season.

Elneny was linked with a switch to French Ligue 1 club Bordeaux, but it seems Besiktas have stolen a march in the race for his signature.

Journalist for the Guardian, Ed Aarons, tweeted: "Mohamed Elneny is set to join Besiktas on loan from Arsenal ."

He adds that the deal includes an option for the Super Lig club to make the switch permanent for 18 million euros (£16.2m) next summer.

The 27-year-old has been at Arsenal since 2016, but has failed to cement a place in the starting line-up.

He made just 17 appearances last season with most of those coming in the early rounds of cup competitions.

Elneny will become the latest UK-based player to move to Turkey, following in the footsteps of former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge - who joined Trabszonspor last week.

Arsenal could yet come up against Elneny if he completes the transfer, with both clubs involved in this season's Europa League.

The Gunners were drawn in group F alongisde Eintracht Frankfurt, Standard Liege and Vitoria, while Besiktas will face off with Wolves in group K.

Defender Nacho Monreal is also expected to leave the club before Monday's European transfer deadline, after reportedly agreeing a £3m move to Real Sociedad.

The 32-year-old is said to be heading to Sociedad on a two-year deal, with the option of a further years extension.

He is in line to play in Sunday's crunch north London derby, but is not considered part of first-team plans long term following the arrival of Kieran Tierney.

Monreal could complete his move after the weekend's clash with Tottenham .
