Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi tests positive for coronavirus

Hertha Berlin have confirmed that Matteo Guendouzi has tested positive for coronavirus.

The Arsenal midfielder, who signed for Hertha on a season-long loan deal in the summer, has been on international duty with the France Under-21 side.

But it has been confirmed that he has contracted Covid-19, and must now undergo a period of self-isolation for 10 days.

In a statement, Hertha wrote: "Matteo Guendouzi has tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from international duty.

"There has been no contact with any Hertha players or staff. He is symptom-free and feeling well, but will now self-isolate for 10 days.

"Get well soon, Matteo!"

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta previously addressed Guendouzi's future at the Emirates and suggested that the midfielder could yet have a future with the Gunners.

“I have been really clear that everybody starts from zero all the time in football,” Arteta said in August.

“What you did two weeks ago or two years ago doesn't really matter.

"It's what you are able to contribute to the team now. Everybody is going to have the same opportunities.

“They'll have to show with their performances and their attitude that they are better than their teammates or somehow contributing to what we want to achieve this season.”

Expanding on his talks with Guendouzi, Arteta said: “To tell him exactly that he’s going to be part of the team and at the moment he’s like any other player in our squad.

“He deserves first of all to be treated exactly the same and I will do that to my best capability.”
