Arsenal midfielder Jordan Nobbs back in England squad after recovering from ACL injury

Arsenal midfielder Jordan Nobbs has been named in the England Women squad for the first time this year after fully recovering from an ACL injury.

Nobbs is back in Phil Neville's 20-strong group for the friendlies at home to Brazil and away to Portugal on 5 and 8 October, respectively, having featured three times for the Gunners this season.

The 26-year-old ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament against Everton in November and missed this summer's World Cup as the Lionesses reached a second consecutive semi-final.

World Cup stars Alex Greenwood, Jill Scott and Fran Kirby have also returned after missing the frustrating friendlies against Belgium and Norway through injury, while Neville has called up three training players in Alana Cook, Mel Lawley and Chloe Kelly.

England have no competitive fixtures until they host Euro 2021 but many of Neville's squad will be included in his Team GB side for next summer's Olympics in Tokyo.

"As a coaching team we are working towards Euro 2021 and every camp is vital for our tournament preparation," said Neville. "We cannot afford to waste a day and those players we have picked are aware there are others pushing them hard for their spot. With the Olympics also coming next summer, we know we have to finish an excellent year of progress on a high."

Over 23,000 tickets have already been sold for the clash with Brazil at Middlesbrough's Riverside Stadium, which will help raise funds for the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, co-founded by Stephen Darby, the husband of Lioness captain Steph Houghton. Darby was diagnosed with motor neurone disease last year.
