Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has hit back at his critics after coming under scrutiny again in Sunday's north London derby.

The Gunners fought back from two goals down at the Emirates but found themselves chasing the game after Xhaka fouled Son Heung-min to give away a penalty five minutes from half-time.

Xhaka bore the brunt of post-match criticism but has however suggested he has been unfairly targeted, insisting Arsenal had plenty of chances to win the game despite his mistake.

"Of course critics are always here, in the London derby I think we had a good game, I made a mistake with the penalty, yes," Xhaka, who is currently on international duty with Switzerland, told Sky Sports.

"But if you see the game, we can win this game. we have a lot of chances.

"But this is football, nobody speaks about the chances, nobody speaks about how many we miss. Always (it is) about the mistakes. this is part of football."
