Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe in line to make England debut

Gareth Southgate has confirmed Emile Smith Rowe is in line to make his England debut in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and San Marino.

Smith Rowe has been called up to the England squad for the first time following his fine start to the season with Arsenal.

England have been hit by a spate of injuries and Smith Rowe is pushing to be involved against Albania at Wembley on Friday night.

Needing from point from their final two qualifiers to secure a place at the World Cup in Qatar next summer, England then play San Marino away on Monday.

Asked whether Smith Rowe could make his England debut, Southgate said on Thursday: "We have brought him here to be involved in the team, with a view to being involved in the two matches.

“He has settled really well. He obviously knows a couple of his club team-mates, Phil [Foden] from when he was with the Under-17s, and this is a group that make young players, and new players, very welcome.

“His quality has been apparent in the way that he has trained, so he is ready. We have enjoyed having him with us this week already.”
