Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos issues injury update ahead of Manchester City clash

Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos has said that he is targeting a boxing day return as he continues his recovery from injury.

The Spanish international has missed the last five Premier League games with a hamstring injury after being forced from the field in the 1-1 draw with Vitoria in the Europa League last month.

The loanee has played in 17 matches in all competitions since signing on a season-long loan from Real Madrid in the summer, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

An update on Arsenal's website earlier in the week revealed that Ceballos would target a return to training in mid-December, and the player has given more information on his potential comeback.

James Benge assesses Arsenal's chances against Manchester City

"There's almost no time left!" He posted on his Twitter account .

"Boxing Day is my goal! 8 days until I'm back with the team!"

Should he reach his target, then Ceballos will make his comeback for the Boxing Day match against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

His return will come as a welcome boost to Arsenal caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg who could have the chance to play the midfielder for the first time, should he still be in charge of the club.

Before the trip to the South Coast, Arsenal face Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, before travelling to Goodison Park to take on Everton in their final match before Christmas.
