Arsenal midfielder Dani Ceballos backed to shine when football returns by former boss Unai Emery

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery has backed Dani Ceballos to play a key part for the Gunners in their push for Europe if the football season resumes.

Emery brought Ceballos to the club on loan from Real Madrid during last summer’s transfer window and the Spaniard quickly became a regular.

However, injury ruled the 23-year-old out for three months and he had only just returned to action under Mikel Arteta when the coronavirus shutdown began.

His loan deal is due to expire on June 30 but the Gunners are confident of agreeing an extension to allow him to feature until the end of the season, whenever that is.

“Dani is a player who has excellent qualities and an incredible mentality: he wants to succeed,” Emery told AS. “For Arsenal it was a great market opportunity.

“He played with me, then he was injured and he was out for a long time, he has recovered and now, when the league resumes, he will certainly demonstrate his qualities again.”

The Gunners are currently ninth in the Premier League but are only five points behind Manchester United in fifth – which could be good enough for a Champions League spot – with a game in hand.
