Arsenal may trigger Ismael Bennacer 'buy-back clause' amid Napoli interest

Arsenal are reportedly considering triggering a buy-back clause in the contract of Ismael Bennacer.

The former Gunners youngster was sold to Empoli after just one senior appearance for the club, a League Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

He helped fire the Italian side to promotion from Serie B last term and has played 30 times in Serie A this season.

The Algerian's form has caught the eye of Napoli, and reports in his native country suggest Arsenal are interested in taking the 21-year-old back to the Emirates.

French outlet Le10 Sport say the Gunners have the option of a buy-back clause, but they face a battle on their hands with Napoli's interest understood to be firm.

The Italian giants are apparently ready to offer two players as well as a significant sum to land Bennacer.

Bennacer, who has seven senior caps for his country, has clocked up four assists in Serie A so far this term.

A move to Napoli would see him get the chance to force himself into contention for Champions League football, with Carlo Ancelotti's side sitting second in Serie A.

Arsenal are also battling for a place at Europe's top table next season but have competition from Manchester United , Tottenham and Chelsea for a top-four spot.
