Teenage star Max Dowman has been named in Arsenal’s Champions League squad - but Gabriel Jesus has been left out.
Dowman is only 15 years old and made his debut for Arsenal last month, coming on against Leeds in the Premier League.
The midfielder also came off the bench at Anfield last week and now he could become the youngest player in Champions League history.
The record is currently held by Youssoufa Moukoko, who played for Borussia Dortmund at the age of 16 years 18 days in 2020.
Dowman does not turn 16 until December 31 and there are six Champions League league phases matches before then.
There is no Jesus in Arsenal’s Champions League squad, though, as he has been out of action since January after injuring his knee.
Jesus underwent surgery then to solve the issue and recently posted pictures on social media to show he is running again.
The Brazilian can be added to Arsenal’s Champions League squad later on this season, once the league phase is finished and before the knockout stages.
All eight of Arsenal’s new summer signings, including Deadline Day arrival Piero Hincapie, are in the squad.
Dowman has been named on Arsenal’s ‘A List’, with clubs unable to name more than 25 players on it.
The 15-year-old had to be named on that list if he wanted to play in the Champions League this season because, under UEFA rules, he does not count as a ‘locally trained player’.
Locally trained players must have been registered with a club for three entire seasons between the ages of 15 and 21.
Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly fall into that bracket and are therefore not on Arsenal’s ‘A List’, but they are in their Champions League squad.
Arsenal will kick off their Champions League campaign in under two weeks’ time when they travel to Athletic Bilbao.
