Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta gives two reasons why Man City are 'the best team in Europe'

Mikel Arteta has labelled Man City as the best team in Europe thanks to 'the football they play and the consistency of their results.'

City make the trip to Arteta's Arsenal side on Sunday looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League after they stretched it to 10 points in their victory against Everton in midweek.

That victory was City's 17th in a row, with Pep Guardiola's side last failing to win in mid-December when they drew 1-1 with West Brom.

Their last loss was in late November, with a defeat to Spurs, meaning City having well and truly overcome a relatively slow start to the season, and Guardiola's former assistant Arteta is suitably impressed.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's game at the Emirates, the Spaniard said the way City have managed to turn their early-season form around when many were doubting them shows what a high-quality side they are, arguing that the sign of a good team is to bounce back after a period of form in the manner that his former side has.

He said: "What they have done is react to a difficult moment.

"A big team has to do that when everyone is doubting their ability to compete again and be the team that they are.

"I think they are the best team in Europe at the moment.

"The way they are performing, the football they are playing and the consistency of the results, take all that and it makes them the best team.

"So we have a big - but, as well, a very exciting - challenge ahead of us on Sunday."
