Arsenal, Man Utd and 'Big Six's' Premier League title waits as Liverpool end drought

Liverpool have finally secured the status that they have been craving for 30 years - that of English top-flight league champions.

The Reds' failure to become champions during the Premier League era was something that had been weighing on the shoulders of the club for the past three decades, as successes in virtually every other major trophy during that time failed to satisfy the hunger for the club's 19th English crown.

Jurgen Klopp's side led from the front throughout this coronavirus-affected season, and indeed it was pretty much the virus itself which looked to be the only thing that could stop them for a few months.

But now they have finally and deservedly crossed the finish line, Liverpool have become the seventh different champions in the Premier League era, following in the footsteps of Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City.

And that means there is a shuffle of the pack when it comes to league title droughts.

The end of Liverpool's 30-year wait means that, among the Premier League's 'Big Six', there is now an even bigger gap between Tottenham Hotspur and the rest when it comes to title waits.

Spurs won their second and most recent title in 1961, while they have been runners-up on five occasions including most recently in the 2016/17 season.

Among the Big Six clubs that have won the Premier League, it is Arsenal who now have the longest drought with a run of 16 years since their 2004 'Invincible' success, with Manchester United's last title coming seven years ago in 2013, after which Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Chelsea last won the league in 2017, with Manchester City doing so last season when they pipped Liverpool to top spot.
