Arsenal 'make Philippe Coutinho transfer decision' after Barcelona outline terms

Arsenal are reportedly following rivals Tottenham in declaring themselves unwilling to meet Barcelona's terms for signing Philippe Coutinho on loan.

The former Liverpool star is set to be allowed to leave the Nou Camp this summer as Barca seek funds to balance the books.

Bayern Munich are unwilling to turn this season's loan into a permanent transfer for the Brazilian, who is thought to be available for around half of the £142million fee which was agreed with the Reds in January 2018.

With the summer transfer market set to be hugely affected by the ongoing coronavirus crisis, ESPN report that Barca are also willing to sanction another loan deal for Coutinho in order to get him off the books for a year.

However, any club who wants to take the attacker on board for the 2020/21 season would have to stump up a loan fee of around £10million and cough up all his £250,000 a week wages.

Those salary demands haven't been met with approval by Arsenal, who the report states have been offered the chance to sign Coutinho along with Tottenham and Manchester United.

Any potential deal could also be impacted by Arsenal's agreement with their players to take a 12.5 per cent pay cut for next season which was agreed back in April.

The Gunners' London rivals Chelsea remain in the race to bring Coutinho - who spent five years at Liverpool - back to the Premier League, but they too are thought to be unwilling to accept the terms on offer from the Nou Camp giants.

With financial constraints set to be a huge issue at most clubs across the continent all summer, Barca are likely to either have to adjust their demands or keep Coutinho on their books for next season.
