Arsenal make Martin Odegaard announcement as new asking price is set to complete midfielder deal

Here's all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Aguero interest revealed

Sergio Aguero’s father has revealed that Arsenal were interested in signing the striker before he joined Barcelona.

The Argentine frontman left Manchester City at the end of the 2020/21 season after a decade of service at the Etihad Stadium.

Links with the Catalan giants emerged following the announcement of his decision to leave the club, but Aguero’s father, Leonel, has revealed the Gunners - as well as Chelsea - actually were interested in acquiring his services and were only denied by his move to Barcelona at the pivotal moment.

"He is happy right now after signing for Barcelona. I see him happy," Aguero senior told Radio Le Red. "He didn’t know what was going to happen with his future.

"There were several clubs interested in signing him.

"Arsenal were interested in him and Chelsea to the last minute. If he didn’t stay in England, it was going to be Italy or Spain."

Odegaard announcement

Arsenal have announced their released players for when the 2020/21 season officially ends later this month.

And Martin Odegaard, who spent the second half of the campaign on loan from Real Madrid, is included and that may be the clearest hint yet that a return is unlikely.

Interestingly, the attacking midfielder is one four first-team members of Mikel Arteta's squad to make this list alongside fellow loan members Dani Ceballos and Mat Ryan.

Whilst there is talk of the latter returning on a free transfer later in the summer, Ceballos has already bid farewell after two successive loan spells at the club.

As expected, David Luiz will leave the club when his contract ends on June 30 following two years in north London.

"All developments regarding players extending their contracts; joining/re-joining us; or leaving us will be officially communicated as soon as they are confirmed," a statement reads on Arsenal.com. "We thank all the above players for their contributions to the club during the periods of their permanent or loan contracts with us.

"You will always be part of the Arsenal family and we wish you all the best of health, happiness and success in your futures."

New Guendouzi asking price

The aforementioned list of released players could soon include Matteo Guendouzi who spent the season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin after being frozen out of the Arsenal first-team picture by Arteta.

Previously valued at £30m, a couple of months ago the north London outfit were said to be willing to accept any offers in the region of £25m for the Frenchman who is now in the final year of his contract.

However, reports in France claim that a new asking price has been set as the Gunners seem to have the option to trigger an option to extend Guendouzi's contract by a further year.

According to Le10 Sport, as per Sport Witness, Arsenal are looking to make a profit on the 22-year-old have set 'an important price' - said to be 'well over €10m (£.8.5m)' - for a transfer to Ligue 1 side Marseille to take place.

As mentioned above, if the Gunners do have the option to extend Guendouzi's contract by another 12 months and they exercise their right, it puts them in a stronger negotiating position.

With that said, the report states that negotiations will continue and Marseille still have hope of reaching a quick agreement with Arsenal.
