Arsenal 'make fresh transfer enquiry' for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng

Arsenal have not given up hope of landing Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng this January, according to reports.

Mikel Arteta was warned he'd have little money to spend in January following the club's £140million summer splurge.

But the Gunners reportedly opened talks with German giants Bayern Munich over the possibility of signing centre-back Boateng.

Arsenal are also looking at RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano as a possible alternative, but are likely to get priced out of both transfers this month.

Arteta isn't giving up on bringing in some reinforcements just yet, though.

According to Sky Sports, the Spaniard hasn't just enquired about a transfer fee to land Boateng.

Arsenal have also reportedly enquired about taking the 31-year-old defender on loan until the end of the season - and have asked what he earns each week.

Arteta hinted at possible signings in a recent press conference.

"We need players back from injuries, first of all, to be more solid, more compact," said Arteta.

"And then we might need to do one or two things if the right players become available, to help us. But at the moment I am more concerned with getting the maximum out of the players available to us."
