Arsenal major transfer announcement and interview leaked ahead of official confirmation

Kai Havertz is set to be announced as Arsenal's first signing of the summer transfer window.

The German international is joining the north Londoners from Premier League rivals Chelsea in a deal worth £60million, plus an additional £5million in add-ons. Havertz underwent his medical overseas over the weekend, although no official confirmation has yet been made by the club.

Still, images surfaced on Tuesday evening showing the 24-year-old in the north London outfit's famous red and white kit before the video of the player's first interview with the club began to circulate on social media as well. That likely means official confirmation from Arsenal is just a few hours away.

When asked about the signing of Havertz, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta heaped praise on the talented playmaker, citing his versatility as one of his greatest strengths. "Talent comes at a price, and at Arsenal, we are always interested in youngsters with experience", Arteta told Spanish outlet Marca when asked about the former Bayer Leverkusen starlet.

"I repeat I'm not talking about players from other clubs, but in the case of Kai, he has already shown a lot, including a Champions League. He is a talented player, versatile and only 24 years old."

Havertz netted 19 Premier League goals, providing a further seven assists during his three-year stint with Chelsea, who predominantly utilised him as a centre-forward. Speaking about his favoured role to the Athletic back in 2021, he said: "More or less, I’m a midfield player but I like to go into the box, and maybe that’s why not every defensive player has me on their mind - I just run through the midfield and then I’m there."
