Arsenal lose another player to Africa Cup of Nations after promising defender receives call-up

Arsenal starlet Omar Rekik has been called up to the Tunisia squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Rekik received his first call-up in June where he played 45 minutes of a friendly game against Mali.

The former Manchester City youth player has received rave reviews for Arsenal Under-23's this season, having impressed with his passing and reading of the game.

A centre-back who is also able to play in defensive midfield or at right-back, Rekik will join up with the Tunisia squad for the tournament in Cameroon in the coming days.

The Gunners have made available several academy players for loan in January, football.london understands.

With so many players and just three competitions at senior level this season, the club are struggling to get enough game time for their youngsters.

Rekik was one of the players expected to go out on loan, but he will now benefit from playing in a huge tournament with Africa's best footballers.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are open to accepting loan offers for youngster Kido Taylor-Hart in January.

football.london understands that Taylor-Hart is one of eight Arsenal under-23 players set to be made available for loan next month, along with the likes of Flo Balogun, Ben Cottrell and James Olayinka, who have all featured at first team level for the Gunners in the past.

However, it should be noted that the number of youth players Arsenal decide to loan out in January could be impacted by the Covid situation among the first team.
