Arsenal line up double transfer after Lucas Torreira finally secures Edu £7m windfall

Following the sale of Lucas Torreira to Galatasaray, Arsenal are hoping to secure two further exits in the remaining days of the summer transfer window with Pablo Mari and Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson both set for the exit door at the Emirates.

Torreira, who joined Arsenal from Sampdoria for a fee in the region of £26 million back in 2018 will leave the club for an initial £5 million, with up to £1.5 million expected to come in add ons following his move to Istanbul. He was one of the players who did not feature in Mikel Arteta's plans following successive loan moves, firstly to Atlético Madrid and then Fiorentina last season.

The Uruguayan had just 12 months left on his contract meaning the transfer was necessitated by the club's need to secure a fee for the 26-year-old rather than losing him for free next term. Now, two more players who spent last season out on loan look set to be pushed towards a move away from North London, with both Mari and Runarsson seemingly also out of Mikel Arteta's plans going forward.

The Evening Standard report that Spanish defender Mari is a loan target for newly promoted Serie A side Monza, with discussions also underway for a permanent deal. Mari joined the club initially on loan from Manchester City, but has failed to make an impact in England, spending last season on loan at Udinese having made just 14 Premier League appearances in three seasons.

Meanwhile, Icelandic goalkeeper Rúnarsson also looks set to leave, with another Turkish side, Antalyaspor interested in signing the goalkeeper on loan after struggling so far in England. He has made just six appearances in all competitions for the club since signing from Dijon back in 2020.

Also rumoured to be heading for the exit door this summer are Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Hector Bellerin, with both having spent last season on loan in Italy and Spain respectively.
