Arsenal legend urges Tottenham players to do one thing amid Mauricio Pochettino exit rumours

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has stated that he would be stunned if Tottenham allowed Mauricio Pochettino to leave the club, amid speculation about his future in North London.

Spurs have endured a woeful Premier League record during the calendar year, which has come to a head more in the new campaign as they sit 11 points adrift of the top four after just 12 matches.

That has led to a wealth of reports suggesting that this weekend's London derby with West Ham is do or die for the Argentine manager, as they could find themselves 14 points adrift if results go against them.

However, despite the clear issues, Parlour believes it would be a huge gamble to relieve Pochettino of his duties as it's not clear who would come in to replace him.

The former Gunners midfielder also urged Spurs' players to take responsibility for their performances.

“I’d be amazed if they let a manager of his calibre go because they’ve got to replace him and it’s a gamble on who they’d replace him with,” he told TalkSport.

“I’m surprised they haven’t backed him, I really am, by asking ‘what do you need?’ They got to the Champions League final, it was an amazing season for Spurs last year, now they should try to kick on and move closer to Liverpool and Man City.

“They have got a great stadium now, I know a few players will be leaving but they should be trying to get people in to keep them up there with the likes of Liverpool and City.

“I think the stadium hits a lot of things, you had it at Arsenal. When the Emirates Stadium was built, there was no money to spend, and that’s why Wenger did such a great job just getting them into the Champions League every year because they had no money.

“They had to try to sell a few players to bring a few players in, to balance the books, and it’s difficult because it does really strain your resources when you’re building a new stadium. Spurs have a fantastic stadium but you still need a good team on the pitch to get the value out of it.

“It will be interesting to see what happens but it looks like there has been a real fall out somewhere along the line, I don’t know where, whether it’s the board, whether the players have lost interest in Pochettino, I don’t know.

“But at the moment they’re not doing it on the pitch and they need to have a bit of pride. When you put any shirt on, you've got to go out there for your own personal ability and put it out there for the fans, because the fans are always the ones that really miss out.

“You want to see the players giving it everything they have got because they have got a quality team, you don’t just become a bad team overnight, not if you’ve got to the Champions League final.”
