Arsenal legend Thierry Henry to be announced as Bournemouth's new manager

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is to be announced as the new Bournemouth manager.

That is according to our friends at the Daily Mirror who broke the story on Wednesday afternoon, revealing that the Cherries believe they have convinced the 43-year-old to take over from Jason Tindall.

Tindall replaced Eddie Howe at Vitality Stadium shortly after Bournemouth were relegated from the Premier League last season, but was sacked a fortnight ago despite the side in play-off contention in the Championship.

The report also states that Henry, currently the manager of Major League Soccer club Montreal, is top of a strong list of candidates, including his former teammate Patrick Vieira, Chelsea legend John Terry, and former Huddersfield boss David Wagner.

Henry had an ill-fated spell as manager at Monaco, lasting just three months, was appointed as the new head coach of Montreal Impact in November 2019 where he signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third year on top.

Since leaving Arsenal, Henry has also worked as a pundit for Sky Sports, before becoming assistant head coach for the Belgium national team.

If Henry does become Bournemouth manager, there will be a familiar face to welcome him to the club.

Jack Wilshere is back at the Vitality following his release from West Ham United last summer, signing a short-term deal so he may have to impress Henry to win an extension.

Whilst the pair have never played together, they were at the club at the same time when Henry returned for a brief loan spell in 2012.

Wilshere missed the entire 2011/12 season with an ankle injury - sustained against Henry's New York Red Bull's side - watching on from the stands as the Frenchman second spell at Arsenal unfolded.

Bournemouth lie sixth in the Championship, 12 points behind leaders Norwich and 11 adrift of Brentford in the second automatic promotion place.

The Cherries face Rotherham tonight at the Vitality Stadium before travelling to QPR on Saturday in what could be Henry's first match in charge.

However, the BBC state that reports that Henry has been offered the job a premature.

It's understood that Bournemouth are keen to speak with the Gunners legend, but would require permission from his current employers Montreal first.
