Arsenal legend Thierry Henry edges closer to Bournemouth job after official approach made

Thierry Henry is one step closer to a return to English football with Bournemouth approaching MLS franchise Montreal Impact for permission to speak to the Arsenal legend.

The Cherries are keen for Arsenal's all-time leading scorer to become the club's new manager to succeed Jason Tindall, despite Jonathan Woodgate being unbeaten since taking temporary charge.

Henry's career beyond playing has already seen him work as assistant to Belgium boss Roberto Martinez as well as an ill-fated stint in charge of French outfit Monaco.

The World Cup winning striker has since enhanced his managerial credentials in North America, although the most recent campaign concluded with 13 defeats, eight victories and two draws.

Nevertheless, Bournemouth are keen on bringing Henry to the south coast to help rekindle their push for promotion, following relegation from the Premier League last year.

According to widespread reports, the Championship side have now approached Montreal for permission to speak to the 48-year-old, who is said to be keen on the position.

Henry's contract with the Canadian outfit is due to expire in November, when the 2021 regular season of the MLS expires and the play-offs begin.

The former striker is not the only Arsenal legend linked with the managerial position at Bournemouth, with former teammate Patrick Vieira, the man he succeeded as captain of the north London side, also said to be in the running.

Bournemouth currently sit sixth in the Championship table and are eight points behind the automatic promotion positions.
