Arsenal legend says Gunners will beat Tottenham - with one condition

David Seaman is backing Arsenal to beat Tottenham this weekend - even though he cannot see the Gunners keeping a clean sheet.

Mike Arteta's men take on Jose Mourinho's Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm).

Tottenham are top of the Premier League table after 10 matches - just ahead of reigning champions on goal difference.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are in 14th spot with 13 points - eight adrift of their North London rivals.

Since winning at Manchester United, they have taken only one points from a possible nine, losing 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers last time out.

Speaking to The Target Men Podcast by Football Index, former Gunner goalkeeper Seaman said: "The game with Spurs is going to be tough.

"I can’t see us keeping a clean sheet, but I do think we can nick a 2-1 win.

"They (Spurs) are a good unit and they’ve got a great mix of players, especially with their strike force in (Harry) Kane and (Heung-min) Son and now with (Gareth) Bale there as well.

"It’s going to be a tough ask for an Arsenal team going there with no confidence.

"But with Arsenal, you don’t know what you’re going to get and all I can think of is going to Man United and beating them 1-0 again."

Meanwhile, Seaman has overcome his initial doubts about the appointment of Arteta as Arsenal boss.

"Overall, I’ve been impressed with Mikel Arteta," added the former England international.

"When he first signed for Arsenal, I thought it was a big risk because it’s his first job and it’s a big job.

"After Emery and the latter years of Arsene (Wenger), we weren’t getting any better, so for Mikel to take over was a tough ask.

"At the time I thought Patrick Vieira might have been a better choice because he’d already had experience, but after I saw Mikel’s first press interview, I was really impressed.

"Since then, I like how he’s affecting the team, but he needs to be given time from the board to make it his own team.

"The game against Wolves showed that Arsenal are still lacking in confidence and a clear idea of what is expected of them."

Asked what would be a realistic target for the Gunners this season, Seaman said: "The way Arsenal are now, top four is going to be almost like winning the Premier League.

"The team need to get a run going and gain confidence again, but I do think top four would be a great season for Arsenal."
