Arsenal legend revealed as the key behind Mikel Arteta's genius £30m transfer decision

Former Arsenal legend David Seaman has been the key to Aaron Ramsdale’s success, and the club’s intentions to bring him back to the club on a regular basis proves this.

Ramsdale has been one of the best goalkeepers in the country this season and has played a pivotal part in the Gunners’ surprise fight for the Champions League qualification positions.

The 23-year-old sensation has been helped by Seaman, who visited the club to give him some well-needed advice, which the current Arsenal goalkeeper claimed helped him a lot.

When speaking about the former Arsenal goalkeeper, Ramsdale said: “Even just being at Arsenal and now having the connection with David Seaman – I’ve got his number and get a text from him every now and then, it’s surreal.”

Seaman spent 14 wonderful years at Arsenal and managed to keep 144 clean sheets during his Premier League career with the club.

He was also the goalkeeper for Arsene Wenger’s historic double trophy-winning campaign in 1998, which was the start of great things to come under the Frenchman.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper departed in 2003, but has recently started to return on a coaching level and has overseen the adaptation of Ramsdale, where he has also kept a close eye on the Englishman.

Speaking about Ramsdale’s performance after Arsenal’s 3-1 North London Derby victory over Spurs, Seaman said: “He had three saves to make, a save in the first half that you’d expect him to make.

“A save from [Harry] Kane that was probably hitting the post, but he got a hand to it, and then a brilliant save at 3-1 where he tipped it onto the crossbar, that’s in the mix for save of the week.“

Fans were sceptical about the £30 million price tag for him after playing his part in back-to-back relegations from the Premier League, but now supporters are starting to eat their words.

Ramsdale hasn’t put a foot wrong since making his Arsenal debut and is a major reason why the club is starting to see a transformation at the moment.

At the start of the season, the Gunners had lost their opening three Premier League games and had conceded nine goals in the process, with Bernd Leno starting all three.

However, Ramsdale took the German’s place and the Gunners have looked much more solid ever since, with the help of Seaman certainly playing a part.

The Daily Star has reported that Arsenal are looking to bring in Seaman to work with the academy goalkeepers, and with the success of Ramsdale, this certainly seems a no-brainer.
